International Studies

In the context of globalization entering a deeper phase with many complex shifts in both economy, technology, and cultural values, the demand for experts with a global perspective has become more urgent than ever. Anticipating this trend, Phu Xuan University (PXU) is preparing to launch a new undergraduate program in International Studies (part of the Arts and Humanities field). This is a cutting-edge interdisciplinary training program designed to help learners decode the contemporary world and create sustainable solutions for the future.

1. Training Philosophy: Global Thinking, Local Acting

Unlike the International Relations field, which focuses heavily on diplomacy and legal policies between nations, the International Studies program at PXU emphasizes the ecosystem of the Humanities to analyze the world comprehensively. The training philosophy of the program is "Global Thinking, Local Acting".

The program encourages students to explore the multidimensional interactions between people, environment, economy, history, and culture on a global scale. At PXU, the world is not only viewed through statistics or political texts but is deeply understood through a humanistic lens — where respect for cultural diversity and human rights is the guiding principle for all research and practical applications.

2. Interdisciplinary Framework and Future Orientation

The Bachelor’s program in International Studies at PXU is designed flexibly, integrating modern research tools of the digital age, divided into two main orientations:

  • International Development and Global Change Orientation: Focused on pressing issues of humanity such as sustainable development, food security, climate change, cross-border migration, and the role of international organizations.

  • Political Economy and Regional Studies Orientation: Delving into the analysis of the rise of major economic entities, global market trends, and in-depth studies of strategic regions such as Southeast Asia (ASEAN), East Asia, or Europe - America.

With the Project-based Learning model, students not only read materials but also directly participate in hypothetical or real projects: assessing the impact of a development project, building international market entry strategies for local businesses, or conducting reports analyzing global trends.

3. Broad Global Career Opportunities

Graduates of the International Studies program at PXU are equipped with a versatile skill set including: systems thinking, interdisciplinary data analysis capabilities, critical thinking, and intercultural communication skills. These are essential tools that help students confidently enter the global job market:

  • Development and Non-Governmental Sector: Project management specialists, policy researchers at international organizations (UN, WB, IMF), and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) both domestically and internationally.

  • Business & Strategic Consulting Sector: Business risk analysts, international market researchers, and sustainable development (ESG) strategy consultants for multinational corporations and FDI enterprises.

  • Media & Research Sector: International reporters, news editors, independent analysts at strategic research institutes, cultural institutes, or major news agencies.

4. Open and Multicultural Learning Environment

At PXU, the classroom knows no borders. Students in the International Studies program will learn in an open environment, frequently interacting with international experts and scholars through scientific seminars and student exchange programs. Additionally, mastering at least one specialized foreign language alongside English is both a requirement and a privilege that PXU offers to students in this field.

The new International Studies program at Phu Xuan University is the perfect starting point for young individuals with great aspirations who wish to understand the world in order to change it for the better.
